Christiansborg Castle rests on 800 year old castle ruins
The largest and oldest ruin under Christiansborg Castle is the ring wall of Bishop Absalon's castle from the 1100s.
The ring wall protected the castle against Vendian southerners from the south.
For a freak and warning, Absalon put the black-headed heads on poles outside the wall of the city.
King's Prison
The second major ruin below Christiansborg Castle is the foundation of the legendary Blue Tower, which was the largest tower at Copenhagen Castle. Here, political criminals and other criminals were locked up.

Leonora Christine |
The most famous prisoner was Christian 4th's favorite daughter, Leonora Christine, who was the prisoner of the tower for 21 years, 9 months and 11 days. Leonora Christine was in prison for her husband, Corfitz Ulfeldt, who was convicted of treason
Christiansborg Castle is remodeled by several laps
After 1369, Copenhagen Castle was built on the remains of Absalon's castle.
The place quickly became cramped in the new castle, and the changing kings tore buildings down and built new ones.

af Blåtårn |
Christian the 4th also wanted to put his mark on Copenhagen Castle. He added a floor on the Blue Tower with a flashy copper spear.
Finally, the foundation could not carry the big and heavy castle, and it was clear that the castle could collapse at any time.
Christian 6. Took the castle down and performed a new one - The first Christiansborg Castle, which was inaugurated in 1745.

Ringwall |
Discovered by a case
When the foundation of the present Christiansborg Castle was to be cast in the early 1900s, the workers encountered ruins of several buildings and pieces of a ring wall.
The National Museum experts were summoned, and it turned out that the ruins went back to about 1167.
It was Biskop Absalon's castle, which was then on a small island outside the merchant's port.
