Sermersooq municipality Greenland |
Sermersooq also referred to as East-West municipality, extends over the southern and western Greenland - the world's second largest municipality in terms of area. Sermersooq was created on 1 January 2009 in connection with Greenland's structure and task, which tasks were delegated from Home Rule to the four municipalities.
Sermersooq was called temporarily "East-West municipality".
Asii Chemnitz Narup is Mayor in Sermersooq.
Sermersooq has a total area of 635,600 km² and is Greenland's most populous municipality with 21,000 inhabitants
Sermersooq covers a huge area and we have chosen to share in Sermersooq West with 11,000 inhabitants on 130,600 km² and Sermersooq East with 10,000 inhabitants on 505,000 km²

Northern lights dancing across the night sky is a sight for the gods which winter holiday guests in Greenland will very likely get to experience. From early spring the night sky regularly in northern lights' green glow.

Source of legend and superstition
The Inuit have historically also allowed themselves to wonder, and the northern lights have the clear polar nights challenged the imagination.
A well known legend says that when the northern lights dance in the sky, it means that the dead are playing football with a walrus skull.
Today certain tribes think that children will be particularly intelligent if they are born in the northern lights magical glow.

Greenland's capital Nuuk, is an Arctic metropolis with the feel of "small town" of itself, created as it is by nature and known for cultural diversity.
As a city experience in Greenland mix shopping with whale watching, skiing and dinners at fine restaurants for a cosmopolitan experience, but with a touch of that one is out in nature, where innovative, adaptable people and trendsetting artists are with office workers, fishermen and hunters.

Sermersooq East
Tasiilaq is one of only two cities along 3,000 km long east coast of
Greenland.
Tasiilaq is one of the most beautifully situated, which has helped make it
one of Greenland's most visited tourist attractions. Every year many thousands
of tourists from Iceland on single and multi-day trips through the airfield
Kulusuk.
Tasiilag is the capital of East Greenland but There are several places to
stay in Kulusuk (nearest airport), so spend a day in the settlement before going
on to Tasiilaq, which is just a 10 minute helicopter ride away.
